Structural Design
Structural design can be described as a set of methods or tools that are used to determine safe and economical specifications for a structure, and to ensure that a planned structure will be sufficiently strong to carry its intended load. Structural design is a process of conducting structural analysis to determine what internal and external forces could affect the structure, and then design a structure with the appropriate materials and reinforcements to satisfy the requirements.
While Planning, Elevation and Interior designing are tasked with functionality, purpose and designing the visually appealing features of a project, structural designing place its focus on strength, durability and safety when designing a building.
There can be different structural systems like framed structure, load bearing structure etc. In the framed structure it can be either steel framed, RCC framed, wooden framed etc. The structure is made of various structural components (foundation, wall, beam, column, slab, etc.). These structural components are made from different types of materials (RCC, wood, brick, steel, or other material etc.). So, the design process starts with the selection of material and technology both, and of course the structural system, which is core and most important.
